Fedora EPEL Repo for Redhat / CentOS

Salam semua. Aku nak cerita sket pasal EPEL repo utk Centos / Red Hat version 5.

“EPEL is a volunteer-based community effort from the Fedora project to create a repository of high-quality add-on packages that complement the Fedora-based Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and its compatible spinoffs such as CentOS or Scientific Linux.”

Cara utk menginstallnya ckop mudah.

rpm -Uvh http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/i386/epel-release-5-2.noarch.rpm

Namun begitu sayugia diingatkan bahawa EPEL repo tidak commercially supported by Red Hat.

Sekian Terima Kasih.

Block YM dan MSN menggunakan Squid

Jikalau anda seorang sysadmin yg dah penat mata melihat staff2 main YM dan MSN sehingga menjejaskan produktiviti (IT perlukan YM untuk cari bahan dan bertanya soalan kepada rakan2 IT yang lain), maka silalah add beberapa line ini di dalam squid.conf anda.

acl AOL-YAHOO-MESSENGER dstdomain login.oscar.aol.com
acl AOL-YAHOO-MESSENGER dstdomain pager.yahoo.com
acl AOL-YAHOO-MESSENGER dstdomain shttp.msg.yahoo.com
acl AOL-YAHOO-MESSENGER dstdomain update.messenger.yahoo.com
acl AOL-YAHOO-MESSENGER dstdomain update.pager.yahoo.com

http_access deny AOL-YAHOO-MESSENGER
http_access deny MSN-MESSENGER

Kemudian restart squid anda. Saya meletakkan selepas http transparent.

Jangan lupa untuk buat suara dan muka selamba apabila user anda mula menggaru kepala dan frust apabila “kehangatan” chat mereka terhalang.

Maxis Broadband (Huawei E220) problem

Dah lama rasanya x update blog ni. Sebenarnya 2-3 minggu sudah blog ni kena attack ngan spam sampai kena blacklist ngan google and firefox 3. Biasala malas nk update software wordpress punya pasal.

Ok enuff of the intro. Aku baru beli Modem USB Maxis Broadband (ladybird plak tu) utk mengisi kehausan Internet aku (My Internet Thirst). Modem ini nombor modelnya ialah Huawei E220. Aku rasa Maxis Broadband cam tak baper best.. but we’ll talk about that later.

Fedora dan Ubuntu terbaru detect automatically modem tu. Just plug-and-play. Masukkan modem, tunggu kejap, click on network-manager and korang akan nampak GSM Modem akan disenaraikan disitu.

Tapi pagi ni dia buat hal plak modem tu.

More info ada disini – https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/105545

So cara2 utk reset semula modem tersebut dlm linux adalah seperti berikut:-

sudo rmmod usb-storage
sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1003

su -
rmmod usb-storage
modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1003

Plone xlhtml error

Salam All, It had been a long time since I last update here. Actually I got married to a very lovely lady last December and lovely lady doesnt like to be ignored against all the open source beauties (she personally hates me pronouncing twitter and facebook!). Anyway here are some of the pictures for anyone interested:-

Okay today I encountered one problem with My plone website. My setup of Plone is something like this:-

    Centos 5.2 running on XEN
    Plone 3.1.2
    arofficetransform, arofficepreview products

My problem is that I cant upload the Excel files and I encounter this error

Time 2009/01/02 10:28:50.356 GMT+8
User Name (User Id) anuar (anuar)
Request URL http://192.x.x.x:8080/Members/anuar/portal_factory/File/file.2009-01-02.3019799598/atct_edit
Exception Type MissingBinary
Exception Value Unable to find binary "xlhtml" in /sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin

After some google search and asking around on IRC (thanks kaeru), apparently I forgot to install the “xlhtml” package to transform and render excel files into HTML for indexing and preview. I could not find any “xlhtml” package for Centos 5 but resort to using Fedora 6 built as both OS sharing the same underlying code base.

You can find the package at http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/3432563/com/xlhtml-0.5-6.fc6.i386.rpm.html
and upon installation of that RPM package I did not get the error anymore.

Twitter Client using Pidgin

I never like gwibber much.. prone to crash and late to update any reply to my Fedora 10 box in my opinion. I love the style and versatility of Twhirl, but never got this AIR thingie way doing things for Linux. I mean, why should give full root access to Adobe AIR and subsequently Twhirl? Unless Adobe sort itself out, I always stick to Gwibber… until today.

During browsing of Fedora repo, I found that there’s actually an extension of twitter to be used with Pidgin. After twitter stop all IM’s message coming from Jabber XMPP implementation, I never thought this day will come ever again. Not only that, identi.ca and laconica server implementation is also supported (although normal XMPP already works fine on those 2 identi.ca and laconica).

yum install purple-microblog

should do the trick. Now all twitter message should be update from your pidgin.
